History of Pukekohe Counselling
Pukekohe Counselling Service started in October 1989. In the early days Pukekohe Counselling service offered Stress Management, Conflict Resolution, and Communication seminars to retail businesses; Self Esteem, and Assertiveness courses to the Community, as well as general counselling to the Community. We are happy to continue to offer these services to businesses.
In 1993 I became registered with ACC. This enables those who have been sexually abused to access counselling with fee being paid by ACC. I am one of a few ACC registered counsellors in the Franklin District.
ACC counselling focuses on healing the mental injury of sexual abuse. The affects of Sexual abuse are many and varied, so having this assistance is extremely helpful for the client. In order to have an accepted claim from ACC one has to be struggling with PTSD, Depression or Anxiety, as a result of the sexual abuse experience. ACC offers an initial 6 sessions in order for the counsellor to ascertain whether your current mental distress will be covered by ACC. If it is determined to be so, then an assessment by a clinical Psychologist is required, to confirm this and for cover to be accepted. I am able to arrange the process of initially registering with ACC and then setting up the appointment for the Psychological Assessment, etc. You don't have to first go to a Dr for a referral, or worry about how to do this. Just book your first appointment, and leave the rest to me.
Over the last 30 years I have focused on offering therapy to the people of Franklin, South Auckland and North Waikato. It gives me great pleasure to help people heal from their pain, and enable them to move on to a resourceful and productive life.
Covid 2020- 2022, changed a lot of the way people have been operating. I moved home, and was able to continue my work during lockdown, via telephone and zoom. This has continued, but I can now also offer face to face again. Just 20 mins south of Pukekohe, 20 mins west of Pokeno, or 20 mins north west of Te Kauwhata, I am easily accessible.
